I don't yet have a nickname for my new baby for this blog yet, so for now he will be R.
R's birth was awesome, although fast! Prior to his birth all of us, including Il Tonino, were hoping for a girl. After he was born and we saw that he was a boy, Il Tonino immediately said "but I wanted a sister!" We laughed at that statement (not like we could put R back and change him into a girl) but soon after we discovered that R was somewhat unresponsive and required some mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, oxygen, and encouragement to start breathing on his own. He was never in any serious danger, still being connected to the placenta and showing signs of life, but I do wonder about the metaphysical implications of this event -- we wanted a girl and when we found he was a boy did he not feel welcomed and so needed us to show him how much we wanted him here? Indeed, as the midwives were working on him with oxygen and rubbing his chest, etc. I was talking to him, telling him how much I loved him and how much I wanted him with us, which I did, with all my heart. He soon came around and pinked up and was breathing on his own and we were all glad.
Welcome, baby R. Stay with me a long, long time.

Oh man...that is so sweet and scary at the same time. I can't imagine after all you guys have been through having even a split moment where you would relive that nightmare of loss again. <3
