A few days ago we had a small dinner party with another couple that we know well and love. We started discussing politics, our favorite topic, and talked about McCain's recent vice presidential pick, Palin. It was decided, before we really began discussing her in earnest, to each use a few words to describe our opinion of this pick.
My description?
"A Vagina for the Republican Party."
That can be interpreted in many ways. Enjoy thinking about it ;)

Lol. I find myself oddly fascinated by her. I don't like her in the least, and find it an insulting choice (not that I'm Republican, but it feels insulting as a WOMAN!). But, I still feel fascinated. Like, how she was just back to work 3 days after giving birth to her last son. How can she being doing a good job on all fronts (work and parenting) when running for vice president? I just don't get it. I have a feeling that her husband and daughters do most of the parenting, which is fine for some, I suppose.
I wish she would nurse her baby in public (if she is indeed breastfeeding, as they say she is). And, I'm pretty sure that her daughter, *if* she breastfeeds her baby, will be using bottles whenever she's in the 'public eye'. :(
"A vagina for the Republican Party"? :) I couldn't have said it better because that's my opinion also.
One of the Republican criticisms of Barack Obama has been his "lack of experience" It's kind of odd McCain would pick Palin given that she went from city council to governor of Alaska in three years. Contrast that with Kay Bailey Hutchison who's been a career congresswoman and has strong foreign policy experience, and so far as I know, no skeletons in her closet.
The average american may not be a policy wonk, but they can at least smell a rat. Polling consensus seems to be that Palin was a politically motivated pick, rather than a rational policy-oriented pick.
And since she was apparently poorly vetted before being put on the ticket, it makes one wonder WHO picked Palin? She certainly wouldn't have been at the top of McCain's list given that they met personally a grand total of two times before she was selected.
But on the other hand, people are surprised and intrigued by this odd choice, and it may well work out for McCain, evil bastard he is.
I love your description, I think it is apt. :)
I think it is abhorable that so called feminists are sitting in judgement over her parenting. Isn't that what feminism is supposed to be about? To be able to do EVERYTHING a man does- AND give birth?
I would never judge someone on breastfeeding or bottle feeding in public either. I've had a preemie who was bottle fed (breastmilk) and been judged by so-called "feminist" mothers. They had NO idea what I was going through or that my daughter was fed breastmilk.
I don't care what side of the political debate you are on. To discuss her parenting, her breastfeeding, and her work habits is sexist.
And I happen to like MY vagina, thankyouverymuch. It's just not of the same party as Sarah's.
