Today the Urban Shaman and I finished our second session of working through the questions in the book Your Best Year Yet by Jinny S. Ditzler, an inspiration I got from Urban Hippie Mama's blog. This second session also included making a budget, something that neither one of us has made before.
In my life, finances have not been my strong point, not because I never had enough, but rather because I never had any real education in this area of homemaking, and had never bothered to teach myself. This was partially due to a fear of failure in this area; in my case, ignorance was bliss, in the sense that it made for a nice, if rather naive lifestyle.
But with the economy in a regression and prices going up, plus a toddler who is eating more as he grows, and us hoping to soon add to our family, it was time to get real.
So we spent more than an hour going over and discussing our finances and crunching numbers and remembering more things to add (haircuts! Netflix! Cat food/vet!). In the end, it came out well, provided we both get to keep our jobs.
I'm pleased for finally tackling this task which I've put off. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I learned a few new things.
Off to go search for coupons :)
